As I’m gearing up for next weeks NACA Virtual, I can’t help but think of David Williamson. David’s one of the finest and most hilarious exponents of sleight hand in the world and that’s putting it rather mildly. His work is studied by any serious student of the craft, his personality is larger than life, and his generosity is something to behold. If it wasn’t for a simple exchange between him and myself at the Las Vegas airport more than 11 years ago, I probably wouldn’t have found my way to the college/university market with the passion and curiosity that I did. David’s a walking reminder that after a lifetime of serious study and pursuit, magic really is all about having fun. It was his birthday just the other day, and even with everything that’s going on, he’s still finding a way to have some fun and bring us along for the ride. Thanks for that, David. Thanks for everything.
This picture was taken in the summer of 2017 after seeing David as the ringmaster in the amazingly breathtaking Circus 1903. After we took this he looked at me and asked, “Hey, would you like to meet the elephants?” before he led me and my group of friends to do just that. |
